Have you every heard of Phenology. It is the observation of nature as a guide to planting and predicting insect emergence. When you see Daffodils bloom its time to plan your potatoes.
Mike,
Yes, I have. Henry Thoreau was really keen on it. For years, he painstakingly recorded seasonal events in Concord, Massachusetts. Nowadays, there is a great international project for school students in this area, run by Journey North. It is called the Tulip Project, and you can read more about it here: http://www.learner.org/jnorth/tm/tulips/AboutSpring.html Meanwhile, I need to get out there and get some potatoes in the ground! Thank you.
