Walking down Piney Woods Church Road this evening, I chanced upon a fellow pilgrim in the middle of the road, headed, like me, toward Hutcheson Ferry Road. He (or she) was an Orangestriped Oakworm (Anisota senatoria) with a long way to go. I took a few photographs, then an approaching car prompted me to scoop up the pilgrim and relocate him (or her) to the side of the road. Safe journeys, traveler.
Cool looking cat! I bet he camouflages pretty well in the fall. I often see caterpillars crawling in the most dangerous places in my garden (i.e. in the path of the dogs) and I try to help them along to a safer place.
Thanks, Karin. I am a bit hesitant to help too many insects that feed on oak leaves, because I am so fond of oak trees. Still, I couldn’t bear the thought of a sudden ending under a passing car’s tire. The orange and black stripes make me think of Halloween….
ICK. good shot.
Thanks, Robin!
