I noticed this pair of caterpillars taking on what looked like a ritual stance on a roadside weed during my walk today. I was reminded of Tai Chi, or perhaps Yoga. The two remained perfectly motionless while I took this photograph and several other ones. I am not sure why this particular pose is favored; perhaps it helps the caterpillars look more like twigs and less like dinner.
This is so completely – uh – different from my personal experience. I’m trying hard not to say anything negative (like ick). And all I can think of is : communication gap or posturing of submittance/domination or avoidance technique. Definitely clueless about caterpillar psychology. Green is cool as are tiny clinging feet.
No worries, Robin. I photograph whatever I encounter on my stroll. I have to admit that I am finding most all of it beautiful — even the road-killed cardinal I photographed a few months ago.
